Williams Leads Oil Caps Past Blues

Ben Williams was the story again tonight as he had a pair of second period goals to lead the Oil Caps past the visiting Winnipeg Blues by a score of 5-2.

After the Blues scored just 10 seconds into the game on Scott Roswell’s 17th of the season, Tanner Lewis brought Virden back to even with his seventh of the season and third in his last four games.

It was all Williams in the second who got his first of the night thirty seconds into the frame before scoring his 18th of the season four minutes later. His second of the night was a short handed marker that gave Virden a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Soren Frederiksen got credit for his 16th of the season on the power play when Blues defenseman, Maverick Rafter, wacked home a loose puck past his own goaltender, Brian Archibald.

The Blues responded before the midway point of the period to make it 4-2, but it was Lindsay MacLellan who sealed the game with his fourth of the season into the open net.

Sean Kuehn made 26 saves on the night for the Oil Caps while Archibald made 17 saves in the loss. Click here for a link to tonight’s live scoresheet.

The Oil Caps are back at it on home ice tomorrow night against the Neepawa Natives. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 pm.
