The Virden Oil Capitals, in partnership with IJack Technologies, continue to be ‘connected in the community’.
Each hockey season, the Oil Caps volunteer their time to both hockey and non-hockey related events. From “I Love to Read Month” in local schools to the “Breakfast Club” to the club’s ongoing connection with minor hockey and its mentor coaching program, the Oil Caps are committed to giving back to the community that supports them.
On Oct. 5, a few members of the Oil Caps spent some time bagging groceries at Valleyview Co-op in Virden, while veteran forward Dylan Thiessen took part in a Manitoba Student Leadership Conference a week later (Oct. 12). On that same day, Kirklan Lycar, Morgan Magwood, Alexander Leonidas and Hunter Cloutier helped at a local bingo at the Sherwood Personal Care Home.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, members of the club handed out gameday fliers to classrooms at both Virden Junior High and Mary Montgomery School.
And on Halloween (Tuesday, Oct. 31) Oil Caps players prepared and handed out candy to local kids at the entrance way of Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
Not only that, the team also helped a local citizen move on the same day!
The Oil Caps organization is committed to helping its community whenever it can, says Jamie Hodson, director of business and hockey operations for the hockey club.
“We love to interact with the community,” he said. “We know how important it is for our players to give back to those that support us. The fan support of the Oil Capitals is loyal and unwavering and we want to make sure our supporters know how appreciative we are of them because they’re vital to our success both on and off the ice.”
