Friday, Sept. 23rd– The Virden Oil Capitals played at home on Friday night, defeating the Neepawa Titans in a 6-2 victory with an exciting first period at Tundra Oil & Gas Place as the Oil Caps put up 4 goals all just minutes apart!
The Neepawa Titans started off the scoring with Brayden Michalchuk scoring with no assist at 11:54. However, the lead wasn’t held long with forward, Oil Cap Nolan Chastko scoring back-to-back goals on the same powerplay as Michalchuk had been called on a high sticking.
Chastko’s goals, one at 12:33 and the second at 14:11 giving the Caps the lead.
The Oil Caps furthered their lead with forward, Josh Lehto scoring less than a minute later at 15:04 along with forward, Andrew Blocker at 16:59 ending the period 4-1 in favour of the Caps!
The second consisted of only 1 goal scored by Neepawa’s Parker Korman at 4:37 into the period. Nonetheless, the Caps continued their lead in the third as Nicholas Guberman scored unassisted at 13:16 followed by Brett Sabel just shy of a minute later.
The game ended with the Oil Caps coming out on top 6-2 over the Titans!
The Twin Valley Three Stars of the game were Goaltender #35 Owen LaRocque (3rd), Defenceman #7 David Bielik (2nd), and forward #23 Nolan Chastko!
Our Gardwine Hardest Working Player of the game was forward #13 Davis Chorney!
Saturday, Sept. 24th– The Virden Oil Capitals picked up another road win Saturday night against the Titans at the Yellowhead Community Rec Centre where they came out on top in the extra frame 4-3 for their fourth straight win!
The Oil Caps started the game with two goals in the first. Dean Gorchynski with assists from Chorney and Sabel at 6:11 and Colten Miller unassisted on a powerplay with 25 seconds left in the frame.
The second consisted of 2 more goals, both late in the period.
Nicholas Guberman furthered the Cap’s score for his 3rd of the season with assists from David Bielik and Nolan Chastko on a powerplay at 16:17 and Titans Brayden Kohlman unassisted at 16:35 ending the frame 3-1 in favour of the Caps.
During the final frame the Neepawa Titans made a comeback with one quick goal by Hayden Stocks just 30 seconds in and with 32 seconds left in regulation time Josh Romanyk tied the game up 3-3 on a powerplay.
The game went into an extra frame where Oil Cap’s forward Nolan Chastko went end to end with the puck and scored his 4th of the season for the Oil Caps 4-3 victory alongside Goaltender Eric Reid turning aside 32 shots on net!
